Walking into the living room—which might just be one of my favorite spaces I've ever designed—you're immediately drawn to the interplay of textures and tones that make this space sing. The rich chocolate velvet sofa grounds the space with its generous proportions, while those incredible mid-century chairs with their bamboo cane detailing add just the right amount of vintage-inspired character.
But it's that raw wood coffee table that is pure magic—its organic edges and natural grain create such beautiful contrast against the room's refined lines. The bold geometric artwork above the sofa commands attention without overwhelming the space, while the more intimate pieces on the console table add layers of visual interest that draw you deeper into the room. I anchored everything with a geometric rug that has just enough pattern to keep things interesting.
The kitchen maintains the home's sophisticated restraint with soft creamy cabinetry and classic subway tile, while the oversized windows flood the space with natural light that makes everything feel larger and more connected to the leafy neighborhood outside. The dining area's glass table and cantilever chairs keep things feeling open and airy—crucial in these more intimate Durham homes where every square foot counts.
Throughout the bedrooms, pattern and texture create distinct moments of personality. The main bedroom embraces quiet sophistication with its muted palette and natural textures, while the guest room makes a bolder statement with graphic black and white linens that feel both contemporary and timeless. The home office balances productivity with comfort through carefully chosen pieces and that perfect gallery wall of cool vintage illustrations.
Throughout, I filled the spaces with plants, books, and authentic styling touches that make this house feel genuinely lived-in rather than just photographed. What emerges is a home that understands its place in Durham's evolving landscape—respectful of the past, designed for how we actually live today, and completely confident in its own understated elegance.
